A Humanitarian Crisis.
Assembly Bill AB 1194 passed on May 28, 2021. It passed 64 to 0. AB 1194, was conservatorship reform in California. It holds fiduciaries accountable, increase training and fines and removes those that cannot comply with laws as a conservator. AB 1194, is the right step in protecting the vulnerable, as was in the case of singer Britney Spears. Equally as important but not carrying the same star power, are those suffering from severe mental health brain illness and living on the streets. Homelessness is much more than those without traditional homes. In California you cannot drive or walk in downtown areas and not pass someone who is sitting, sleeping, or pushing their possession on the streets and sidewalks. They are the ones referred to with horrible names like lazy, trash, scum, worthless; by individuals who do not understand the individuals personal struggles. Why has it become acceptable to allow the severely mentally ill to reside on the streets. Languishing, suffering and slowly dying. Why?
